Welcome to Huck’s Adventures

At Huck’s Adventures we are committed to breeding healthy and happy Cavapoos and Miniature Poodle puppies that will make a wonderful addition to your family and home. As a small, in-home breeder located in Atkins, Iowa, we prioritize the well-being and quality of our dogs. We breed one litter at a time so we can focus on that specific litter. We spend a lot of time with with each puppy, performing daily tasks and curriculum based “classes”.

Our parent dogs are DNA health tested for the diseases common in their breed and they are OFA certified to ensure the highest standards of wellness. Our breeding program prioritizes temperament, genetic health and providing families with well-rounded, healthy companions.

Our goal is to offer you a healthy, well-prepared companion to bring joy and comfort to your household.

Healthy dogs are important to us! We hope you find your perfect companion here at Huck’s Adventures. Here is our program and why your puppy is different:

HEALTH TESTED PARENTS

At Huck’s Adventures, our commitment to quality starts with healthy, happy parents. All of our breeding dogs live in our home, ensuring they receive the love and care they deserve. We prioritize great temperaments alongside comprehensive health practices, including both genetic and physical health testing.

We firmly believe that a healthy puppy begins with healthy parents. Therefore, our parent dogs serve as the ideal examples of what a Cavapoo and Miniature Poodle should be, both in health and temperament. This foundation allows us to breed puppies that meet the highest standards in health & disposition

PREGNANCY & WHELPING CARE
Our sweet mamas are given the best care throughout their pregnancy. From vet visits, extra nutrition, massages, extra special treatments & more, our Moms are well prepared to bring their puppies into the world. Once their due date approaches Moms are integrated into their whelping area. During whelping our moms receive delivery assistance as needed. They have someone staying in their room for the first 5 weeks to ensure her needs and puppies needs are met throughout the nights as needed.

ENS & ESI
Once puppies are born into the world at Huck’s Adventures, on 3-16 days old we begin ENS ~early neurological stimulation and ESI ~early scent introduction. ENS is known to improve cardiovascular performance, stronger heartbeats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease. ESI training is designed to enhance their ability to identify, and react to specific scents. On day 4-16 we also incorporate gentle handling taught by Jeanette Forrey. This is very gentle rubbing our hand down them, holding them close to our heart and face. This starts to introduce touch tolerance.

CURRICULUM
At 3-8 weeks we also begin socializing our puppies to different sounds, sights, textures, things to climb on, run through and more. We believe in empowering over enabling our puppies. We set them up to conquer physical and mental challenges every day. By doing this we build our puppies’ nerve strength and confidence as well as problem solving skills. Our goal is to provide our puppies with a stable and enriching environment for the first 8 weeks of their lives.

10 STEP HANDLING
At 3 weeks old we transition into a more advanced curriculum with our puppies set forth by Jeanette Forrey with 4E Kennels. We begin a “10 step puppy massage” every day and increase pressure weekly. We use our 10 step handling exercises to ensure our puppies are exposed to various types of touch, handling and sensation. This includes eyes, nose, inside mouth, around collar, tummy, down back, pull tail, tug on ears, and tapping nails. This type of training helps them to adjust to different people touching them. We hold them close to our hearts and our face. This creates a very special moment, its a safe, trusting connection. We are teaching them touch tolerance during this time.

TEMPERAMENT TESTING
At 8 weeks of age (due to small breed), we conduct a puppy aptitude test on each individual puppy set forth by Jeanette Forrey’s Program. During the test we are focused on 12 important puppy temperament traits to help make sure you get a puppy that fits you, your lifestyle and your needs as well as honoring who the puppy is. Once temperament testing and vet checks are completed families will be able to watch evaluation videos and see scorecards of each puppy in order for them to make the right decision for their family on go home day. Picking of the puppy is made in the order of where the family was placed on the deposit list.

What is a Cavapoo?

A Cavapoo is a cross between a Caviler King Charles Spaniel and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. At Huck's Adventures we focus on F1 & F1bb. The F1 is a mix of Caviler King Charles Spaniel (50%) and Miniature Poodle (50%). The F1bb Cavapoo is a cross between an F1b Cavapoo and a Miniature Poodle. This generation of Cavapoo is known for being hypoallergenic and non-shedding, making them a good choice for people with allergies. They are known for their affectionate, intelligent, energetic and full of fun friendly nature. They are extremely friendly and adaptable dogs that get along well with young children and other pets. Here are some of the characteristics of the F1bb

  • Appearance: F1bb Cavapoos have a curly coat that resembles a Poodle, but may also have some Cavalier King Charles Spaniel features.

  • Size: F1bb Cavapoos are usually between 8 and 20 pounds.

  • Temperament: F1bb Cavapoos are intelligent, loyal, and playful, similar to Poodles.

  • Hypoallergenic: F1bb Cavapoos are among the most hypoallergenic Cavapoos because of their high percentage of Poodle genetics.

  • Shedding: F1bb Cavapoos are non-shedding and produce minimal dander and hair.

  • Grooming: F1bb Cavapoos require regular grooming to keep their coat clean and healthy.

Customer Reviews

  • I got Poppy from Huck’s Adventures. She is a beautiful girl that will be one year old the end of December. She came to me very healthy and is very smart. I highly recommend Huck’s Adventures for those who want a new puppy that has had the best of care ~ Karen

  • Our family had a wonderful experience finding and adopting our poodle puppy from Huck's Adventures. Tammy does such an incredible job caring for the pups and their families. Our dog (almost a year old now) is healthy and has the best personality. We conducted the transaction from Washington state, and she made sure everything was handled, from training, to veterinary visits, to coordinating travel by flight nanny, and even sending a sweet package with goodies for her arrival. She answered all our questions and continues to keep in touch. We consider ourselves lucky to have our special puppy from Huck's Adventures. ~ Teresa

  • Where to begin?! Tammy was so good from the start to finish. The first time we spoke to her was over a virtual call and could feel the genuinely good vibes and care that Tammy (and her family) genuinely have for dogs. There was a good amount of socialization in the house both with the dogs (litter and older dogs/parents) and family members that made us feel good about the transition to our home. Tammy was very responsive in terms of answering questions, and then when we decided to purchase our miniature poodle, she was very supportive in listening to how we planned to transition our puppy
Into our new home as well as eventually train him. And over the next 10 days before we officially got our puppy, she stayed in touch with us every day giving updates and frankly developing a friendship. You can tell her dogs and puppies get a lot of love and care which comes from who Tammy is as a person. It was very easy to trust her. She also agreed to meet us halfway for the handoff of our dog which saved us an hour and a half of drive time. When we met, she delivered a bag of a number of items including those he had been using and snuggling with, as well as some puppy training material and pictures of our puppy up until the 3.5 months old when we got him. Look no further, Tammy is a genuine, focused and caring breeder looking to bring puppies and more happiness into the world. Forever grateful! ~ Casey

  • We had a truly wonderful experience getting our miniature poodle puppy from Tammy Kies through the Good Dog app. From the very beginning, Tammy stood out as a caring, knowledgeable, and dedicated breeder. The puppies were clearly raised in a loving home environment — well-socialized, healthy, and already started on training when we brought ours home. Tammy was an excellent communicator throughout the entire process. She patiently answered all our questions, offered valuable advice for first-time pet owners, and provided thoughtful guidance to help us prepare for our new family member. It was clear she genuinely loves every puppy she raises and is deeply committed to ensuring they go to the best homes possible. Even after we brought our puppy home, Tammy has stayed in touch, checking in and offering support as we continue raising her. Our puppy is happy, confident, and incredibly well-adjusted — a true testament to the care and attention she received early on. We can’t recommend Tammy Kies highly enough. She’s not just a breeder — she’s a wonderful partner in helping families welcome a beloved new companion into their lives. ~ Christin

  • Tammy kept us informed throughout the entire adoption process, sharing photos and videos, insights about our puppy’s character, and addressing specific questions. We really felt like we knew him before ever meeting him! When the day came to finally receive him, we felt very confident and prepared. The day we met, she gave us an AMAZING goodie bag she had prepared with information for new dog owners - this was so helpful! Our experience from start to finish was such a good one. Thank you Tammy! ~ Heather
